What, what! That’s right, we’re rocking a new location for DemoCamp 16 thanks to a suggestion by GreenDrinks Calgary.
DemoCamp 16th Details:
When: January 26th, 6:30pm
Where: The District – 607 – 11th Ave SW
What: We’ve already got some demos lined up, including everyone’s fave guys from assn.ca, Andrew from SiteCite, DJ Kelly on Open Data Calgary and Chris Thompson is demo’ing his new phone service.
What does all of this mean for you? Well, there’s still room for you to demo. Also, there’s a rumor that if you get to District earlier, you’ll be able to take advantage of Happy Hour (for those of you not paying attention, that’s a win-win – no over-priced beer from *that other place* AND even cheaper drinks due to happy hour). This is good news people, this is good news. Put on your sociable pants and come on down.

And if you’d like the video summary of your demo to look great, have your laptop ready with a screen capture app.
Running a Mac? SCREENFLOW (by Vara Software) is FREE for the purpose of only capturing. Have that ready, I can grab the video off you via USB key.
Running a PC? CamStudio is free. (And less reliable… but did I mention free?)
The alternative is for a video recording of the projected screen, which looks craptacular.
I know the venue change was requested due to cheaper drink and food prices, but the District was a terrible venue for anyone who likes to hear or see the demos. I was disappointed with how rude a lot of people were that were talking through the demos, especially the first presenters who engaged in full volume conversation throughout the entirety of everyone else’s presentations. The space was too small, visual and audio was inadequate, and for this I would happily pay $5.75 a beer for a proper venue.
** I know the manager at Seven, and I’m sure he would be happy to have specials for democamp.
I’m a big fan of democamp, but if it was held at District or a similar venue again I would unfortunately have to stop being a regular attendee.
So people know, normally District has a wireless mic that broadcasts thru all their speakers. It was broken yesterday but would be fixed for any future DemoCamp. Plus I showed up late (so didn’t set up cameras, nor helped with any audio).
I’m happy to try District again knowing audio problems can certainly be solved, and they have HDTVs which could possibly relay a video image as well as the projected image. I can see it working, but I’ll concede it didn’t work very well last night.
But I’m also not too worried where the next venue is… showing up early and placing whatever speaker we have further into the audience makes a big difference in how audible the speaker is.
