Videographic Evidence of DemoCampCalgary12

December 3rd, 2008 by Sarah Blue

To those who claim it would be impossible in Calgary for 3 software demonstrations to occur in one night without altercations…

To those who responded “looked photoshopped” when presented with David Gluzman’s photos of the event…

To my mom who keeps referring to Calgary DemoCamp attendees as “my imaginary friends”…

I present videographic irrefutable proof that this event did indeed take place!

DemoCamp wrap up for 2008!

November 26th, 2008 by Sarah Blue

Whoa, the year is gone already…

We all met up at Rare Method last night (thanks to Tom and Jillian for letting us use the space and getting everything organized) for DemoCamp12. It was a packed house and we got through three great Demos.

Mike Tighe and his boyz kicked it off with trainit.ca - funny the crowd had just been talking about the problems with Calgary Transit the day before on twitter. What a great example of seeing a need and building something better than what is currently available. We’re looking forward to getting updates on the project.

Next up was Leif Baradoy with Christmas Future. Great idea, good way to give. While Leif didn’t follow the ten minute format, he certainly kept the crowd engaged. Leif says a year-round website is on the way, so keep an eye out for that! Also: we hear through the grapevine he is an excellent Ultimate player.

Last was a Demo of GWABs.  Walking through the new website, the desktop fighting and some of the training contracts. If you’d like an invite to the Beta - please drop us an email!

The BarCamp Crew met up after to talk about the plan for 2009. Stay tuned!

*More photos from the evening are available on flickr (tag your picks ‘democampcalgary, democampcalgary12′).

DemoCamp 11 - Wrap Up

October 24th, 2008 by David Gluzman

DemoCamp 11 @ CM

Last night we had a great showing over at CriticalMass for our eleventh edition of DCC. We had an ample supply of Halloween candy and beer (thanks Deloitte and CriticalMass!).

We had three presentations last night..

John Bristowe
John Bristowe: IE8

Ashley Dunfield
Ashley Dunfield: Lifesocket

(no photo!)
And in between I (David) presented a thought piece on User Experience

You can checkout some more photos from the evening on flickr, and if you had the chance to take some snaps make sure to tag them (democampcalgary, democampcalgary11) so everyone can find’em.

Lastly, as there’s more and more of an initiative to get people talking on twitter (#yyc reprezeeeent) why not share our IDs in the comments. To get things started if you want to follow some of the organizers of DemoCamp Calgary, there’s Sarah (@superblue), John (@jbristowe), and myself (@d4v) (will Patrick get on twitter, only time will tell). :)

Till next time!

DemoCamp 11 Location Change!

October 20th, 2008 by David Gluzman

Due to a wee bit of disorganization, we’ve had to change venues at the last minute for the upcoming DemoCamp this Thursday.

Luckily our friends over at CriticalMass have offered to host us at the last minute. Thus DemoCamp 11’s home will be there:

402 11 Avenue SE (MAP)

Lastly, the Calgary UX group will continue to meet up as well, however at a The Vicious Circle which is about 10 minute walk from CriticalMass.

So in summary:

Calgary UX Meetup
5:30pm
Where:
The Vicious Circle
1011-1st St. SW
(MAP)

DemoCamp Calgary 11
6:30pm
Where:
CriticalMass
402 11 Avenue SE
(MAP)

Sorry about all the last minute confusion, but we hope to see you there!
To make up for it, we’ll make sure there’s some beer lying around at Critical Mass for you to consume.

OMG! No WAY! DemoCamp11 is in EIGHT DAYS!

October 15th, 2008 by Sarah Blue

Whoa, the month is quickly sneaking by on us…

We’ve got DemoCamp scheduled for October 23rd. That’s a week and a day away…

We still have room for Demos and any extra time will be filled up by talk of User Experience.

The UX Group will be holding a get together before DemoCamp, so what better time to spread the UX love?

As always, DemoCamp will start at 630pm. We were hoping to find a new venue for this one, but it is looking like it will still be Melrose Cafe and Bar - 7th St and 17th Ave SW.

See you soon,
The BarCamp Crew

DemoCamp10 wrap up

October 1st, 2008 by Sarah Blue

DemoCampCalgary10 was a success!

Graham Neumann, Kent Hawkins, Marcus Riedner and Matt Dorey all presented some pretty cool stuff.

It was also National Digital Media Day, so we kicked the evening off with a mixer hosted by Digital Alberta. Good times were had by all and it was fun seeing so many new, but familiar faces in the crowd.

We’ll be looking for a new space for DemoCampCalgary11 in October. if anyone has suggestions, please let us know!

Here’s the who-did-what-when from the original post:

mm:ss Presenter Startup
01:19 Graham Neumann SpeakLike.com
04:23 Kent Hawkins AllianceOne.ca
10:37 Marcus Riedner Sharing-Books.com
13:59 Matt Dorey CurveDental.com

DemoCampBanff1 also happened this week (Monday) out at the Cybera Summit. The Banff Centre is a beautiful location, the weather was amazing and yet people still stayed to participate! We had great demos by Dave Bodnarchuk, Reg Cheramy, Sean Healy and his partner Tys, Darren Stroeder, Peter urban and Marcus Riedner (that guy is everywhere!).

We hope to see you out next month,

DemoCampCalgary just over two weeks away

September 9th, 2008 by Sarah Blue

DemoCampCalgary #10, on Sept 25th at Melrose Cafe and Bar is gearing up!

We’ve got some great Demos lined up as well as some extra goodness for National Digital New Media day!

Digital Alberta will be holding a mixer before we start on the middle floor of Melrose. Come out early and say hi to some new people. We’ll kick off DemoCamp  at 630pm with a quick nod to what is going on across the rest of the country and why National Digital New Media day is happening. Then, we’ll carry on with our Demos. As always, stay after for a chance to catch up, have a beer and eat something greasy. Impossible to pass up!

See you soon,
